Luxury in the Islands of Washington State?
Ever visited the San Juan Islands? They are a little archipelago off of Washington State where orcas play and kayaking is unbeaten. Who would have thought this humble place to be considered "the hottest luxury-home market in the country", as mentioned today in the Wall Street Journal?
Waterfront homes are everywhere. Trees abound, creating oxygen that flows freely through the numerous waterways pristine with bald eagles flying overhead. Artists flock to the islands to use their sanctuary as inspiration.
With 15.9% of the San Juans' employment in the construction industry, we are bound to see further development and growth. Arts and entertainment, recreation, accommodation and food services rank second, employing 14.7% of the population. Educational, health and social services rank third (12.7%).*
Demand for housing in the San Juans has been fueled by high tech coming out of Seattle. While you can buy a three-bedroom, two-bath home on almost a full acre for only $354,000, there are plenty of breathtaking luxury homes you could also choose to purchase. How about a 12,000 square foot home on 118 acres on Cormorant Bay Road, Orcas Island for $17,000,000. Prefer 765 feet of waterfront with your own FAA approved runway on almost 99 acres? It's yours, for $20,000,000. If Mercer Island is your preference, how about a 14,940 square foot property that includes a lake, sports pavilion, private tennis court, indoor spa, vessel dock and opulent movie theatre? The San Juans have that for you too, $22,600,000 asking price.
Celebrities who choose the San Juans for their getaway include Steve Miller, of the Steve Miller Band, who owns on San Juan Island. Bill Gates owns on Shaw Island. Actor Chris Pratt, from the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation owns on one of the islands and names his beach "Jacks Beach" for his son. Record producer David Tickle, known for producing Rod Stewart, the Police, U2, Genesis, Jackson Browne and the Clash, has been living in Friday Harbor since 1994.
So, if you'd like to buy address, the San Juans could be it. And here's the clincher, you don't have to be a rockstar to live there. If your family is anything like ours, you'll enjoy every minute of it.
If you'd like to be in the Silicon Valley, I'm here to help you facilitate that. Whether Buying or Selling, we'll get you what you want!
