The City of Mountain View was founded on the principles that everyone belongs. From inception, they created the city to be home to all types of people, with all types of homes. You'll see multi-family homes interspersed with single-family homes throughout most of the city, especially East of El Camino Real.

Google. Google. Google. Mountain View is the world headquarters for Google, with approximately 20,000 jobs in Mountain View alone and since they made their home in Mountain View in 1999, the city has undergone many changes. While Google is ever-present, there are plenty of other companies in Mountain View including Addepar, 23 and Me, Synopsis, Linkedin, Omnicell, Kaiser Permanente and El Camino Hospitals.

Downtown
Mountain View, as noted by the train engineers when riding from San Jose up to San Francisco, is known as the culinary capital of the route. There are over 150 restaurants of every type you can imagine. Castro Street is the main downtown street in Mountain View and is scattered with any fare you choose.

Along with restaurants there are plenty of other specialty shops including a grocery store, drug store, children's clothing store, bookstore and more.

Weather
Mountain View's weather is very pleasant year-around, and supported the orchards that used to dominate the landscape there.

Restaurants
We locals sometimes refer to Palo Alto as San Francisco South when it comes to restaurants. Scattered throughout Palo alto, but mostly along University Avenue, El Camino Real, or California Avenue, you'll find multinational restaurants to suit every taste and budget.

Public Schools
Mountain View has two of Silicon Valley's most sought-after elementary schools, Huff and Bubb schools. The rest of the district has been working hard to match those two. Mountain View has a large rental contingent and the two highest performing schools are both on the westside of El Camino Real, where there tend to be more single family homes, and less apartments. Mountain View is building a new school in the Whisman area to support the demand for it's growing population.

Mountain View high school is in a district with Los Altos High School and both have very nice facilities and desirability.

There are plenty of private schools in Mountain View also, including Khan Academy, Yew Chung International School, and German International School of Silicon Valley.

Parks
Being the "City of trees," Mountain View places high priority on its local parks. Mountain View is very family-friendly and has approximately forty-five parks scattered throughout the city, including Shoreline Park, a huge facility including a lake, golf course, Michael's Restaurant, and Rengstorff House. The city also has several dog parks.

Mountain View hosts movie nights in parks several times throughout the year.

Hospitals
There is a beautiful medical facility, part of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation and Sutter Health, located on El Camino Real in South Mountain View. This facility was built in 2005 as an outpatient medical center. Complete with waterfall fountain and oak tree studded peace garden, it's a modern facility with a very nice design.

Shopping
Mountain View's Farmers' Market is located at the CalTrain station parking lot off of Villa Street, is on Sundays 9am to 1pm, and has been voted Top 5 in the nation by American Farmland Trusts’ Favorite Farmers’ Market Contest. The third largest market in the state, it offers an extensive selection of organic produce, baked goods and fresh flowers.

In addition to Mountain View's downtown shopping district there is more shopping off of Grant Road and El Camino Real. There you'll find a center that includes a bagel shop, Nob Hill grocery store, Ranch 99 Asian grocery store, a Marshall's/Home Goods store and more. In the Northern part of the city, off of San Antonio Road, between California Street and El Camino Real, you'll find another mall that includes Kohl's, Walmart, Trader Joes, several restaurants, a jeweler, Carter's kids clothing store and more.
